NGORONGORO CRATER AND TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK 3 DAYS
Ngorongoro and Tarangire make the best combinations for the safari of the northern circuit of Tanzania for the travellers with the low budget and short duration of stay. Ngorongoro Crater is the unique landscape with variety of animals living together in the biggest caldera in the world. Tarangire is the home of the biggest population of elephants in Tanzania and it is only source of water in the dry season. Ngorongoro and Tarangire are 1h away from each other, which makes them a great wildlife duo.
Itinerary:
Day 1:
Pick up from your hotel in Zanzibar to the airport for catching a flight around 7am to Arusha Airport. Drive about 2h to Tarangire National Park for game drives. It’s the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. The swamps, tinged green year round, are the focus for 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world. After lunch continue with afternoon game viewing in the park, a home to Lion, Leopard, and Elephant, buffalo, Python, Zebra, Oryx, Impala and more. On drier ground you find the Kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird; the stocking-thigh ostrich, the world’s largest bird; and small parties of ground hornbills blustering like turkeys. More ardent birdlovers might keep an eye open for screeching flocks of the dazzlingly colorful yellow-collared lovebird, and the somewhat drabber Rufus-tailed weaver and ashy starling. Dinner and overnight at Panorama campsite or Jambo Lodge.
Day 2:
Wake up early morning for breakfast then at 6h drive to Ngorongoro Crater where you will descend into the Crater floor (610m deep) for game drives. All the Big five Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Elephant live in this wonderful caldera, and many more mammals. Birds include flamingos on the Soda Lake, Geese, Storks, Vultures and more. Break for lunch at Ngoitoktok spring Picnic site. Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World’. A massive extinct volcano, its towering tree lined walls drop thousands of feet to a “Noah’s Ark” of animals on the verdant floor below. This breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands, fresh springs and the large soda lake. Nowhere else can such diversity in wildlife be experienced in such a short period of time. Later in the afternoon drive back to Arusha where you will arrive around 7pm. Overnight at Graceland Hotel in Arusha.
