Zanzibar archipelago, so small yet so different with many things to offer.
Except the capital – Zanzibar City, all other places are villages. The ones visitors go to most are northern villages Kendwa and Nungwi, or eastern ones Paje, Jambiani, Bwejuu.
Nungwi and Kendwa have the reputation on the island of one of the worlds most beautiful beaches.
High and low tide difference is a big headache to visitors – where is the ocean?! Kendwa and Nungwi yet don’t suffer from that big difference and during the day you can always swim.
The north of the island is not only good for swimming and nice beaches – also there is many activities around such as snorkeling spots, Maasai Village, swimming with turtles, horse ride, scuba diving, buggy ride.. as well as parties in crazy Cocobello or full moon parties in Kendwa.
Paje is also worth mentioning as an option. Yes, low tide can be very low and ocean might be gone for hours during the day. But when it’s high tide it gets an exotic note and it is really nice for swimming. Luckily, there is the website that can show you when it is high or low tide – tide chart Zanzibar, so it can help you organize your stay – when it is low tide, go on a trip and enjoy, when it’s high, stay and also enjoy. There is many things to do around as well, dolphin spot, swimming in caves, visiting Star fishes, Jozani forest.. Paje is also often choosen by sport lovers, as the wind makes it perfect for practising kite surfing. Youngers or the ones feeling like that love Paje and its party vibe! Every day parties and often festivals make east coast the party side of the island.
If you rather feel like a quiet place, not busy and still beautiful you can stay at small places such as Kiwengwa, Pwani Mchangani, Kizimkazi..
Stone Town can also be your option for a day or two, walk through old town, learn about Zanzibar history and do trips that are closer from there.
Each side of our island is beautiful, just choose the right one for you and enjoy your perfect holiday.
